An Insider Tip: How to Follow New York Bridal Fashion Week

Twice a year, just as in ready-to-wear, world-renowned bridal designers debut their new wedding, bridesmaid, and accessory collections in New York City. The gowns that walk the runway during New York Bridal Fashion Week – October 9th through 17th – will be available in bridal salons in early Spring 2014.

While brides cannot attend these shows in person, you can follow along as the editors at top bridal websites and blogs post images of every single dress in their wedding gown galleries. I’ll be showing my new collections for Christos, Kenneth Pool, and Amsale on Saturday, October 12th and you can watch them live on TheKnot.com.

If you are getting married in mid 2014 and beyond, these are the dresses you’ll be trying on in salons, so be sure to "favorite", pin, and print out the wedding gowns you want to slip into at your salon appointment. You may also want to flag any bridesmaid dresses you love and share them with your bridesmaids.

But don’t worry; you don’t need to be glued to your computer the whole week! Editors, designers, and bloggers will be Instagramming and Tweeting pictures with comments of their favorite looks and trends. Make sure to follow top bridal sites like @theknot, @marthaweddings, @brides and @stylemepretty. You can also keep up with the shows, or weigh in yourself, with the hashtag #bridalweek.

So, what should you be looking for? Of course you want to look for the one, but keep your eyes out for anything that piques your interest: a silhouette that will flatter your figure, a color that matches your wedding’s palette, or an interesting detail you really love. If there is a specific gown or collection that catches your eye, don’t be afraid to reach out to the designer to see if any special trunk shows will be held before the gowns hit salons. You may be able to be one of the first to try it on and purchase it for your wedding!
