A SUMMER CAMP LOVE STORY

Tom and I met in the summer of 2006 at Sandy Island Family Camp on Lake Winnipesaukee. I was 18 at the time was there as a camper with my family; Tom, 17 at the time, was a lifeguard. My mom introduced us when she saw Tom was wearing a Villanova sweatshirt (I was headed there as a freshman in the fall). Tom ended up attending Villanova as well, and we stayed friends through college, but dated other people. We both ended long-term relationships in 2011 and reconnected at Santa Con in NYC, where Tom was living at the time. I moved from Boston to NYC after 2 years of long-distance and another 2 years later Tom proposed.

Tom popped the big question on our favorite date of the year. Each summer, we’d plan a night to go to our favorite restaurant, Lago, at the other end of the Lake. This time, after Tom picked me up, he took a detour past Sandy Island, where we’d met, and stopped the boat. I saw him take the ring box out of the boat closet and couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. He told me to wait to call my mom (of course that’s the first thing I wanted to do), and when we pulled up to the restaurant, both our families were there waiting to celebrate.

We had always talked about getting married on the lake and wanted our guests to experience everything we love about the lake. We chose a country club for the reception, which has a beautiful view of the water. Tom and I both have a traditional style, so when I found the Rowan, I immediately knew it was perfect and I knew Tom would love it. September 9 was the best day of our lives.
